About the Optimist Club of Waterloo, IL
For more than 70 years, the mission of the Waterloo Optimist Club has remained simple: to inspire and support the youth of Monroe County, IL. Through acts of service, fundraising, and community events like the Blue Army Bull Bash, Beer-B-Que, and the Optimist 5K, we raise vital funds that are reinvested into local programs focused on education, personal development, and career readiness.
Whether through hands-on volunteering or financial giving, we’re dedicated to helping young people grow, thrive, and succeed. Together with our community, we’re building brighter futures — one child at a time.
Events, Outreach & Acts of Service
The Waterloo Optimist Club redeploys the funds we earn at our events to a variety of youth-centric activities, organizations, and services throughout Monroe County. We're grateful to be part of our community and are passionate about sustaining and enhancing the lives of the youth in Waterloo, Illinois, and surrounding communities. Blue Army Bull Bash
The Blue Army Bull Bash returns to Waterloo, Illinois, on September 19, 2026, for another action-packed night at the Monroe County Fairgrounds! Legendary four-time World Champion Bull Rider Tuff Hedeman brings the finals of his Midwest Swing Breakout Series Bull Riding Tour to Waterloo, featuring some of the world’s toughest cowboys taking on some of the rankest bulls in the country. Presented by Waterloo Rural King to benefit the Waterloo Optimist Club, the family-friendly event kicks off at 7 p.m., with gates opening at 4 p.m.

Beer-B-Que
Every year, The Waterloo Optimist Club and The Ferm Homebrew Club join forces to host one of the most anticipated events in Monroe County: Beer-B-Que — a beer and BBQ tasting experience like no other! 5K Run & Fun Walk
Join us for the 23rd Annual Waterloo Optimist Club 5K Competitive Run & 5K Fun Walk on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Rogers Elementary School in Waterloo, Illinois! The race begins at 8 a.m. and features a 5K course through Waterloo’s city streets with rolling hills. Whether you’re a competitive runner chasing a personal best or simply looking for a fun, active morning with friends and family, participants of all ages and abilities are welcome. Awards will be presented to top finishers in male and female age divisions, and all proceeds benefit local youth programs supported by the Waterloo Optimist Club.
